In this fast emerging world, our lives are nothing but a race against time where not once do we stop to analyse the repercussions it causes on our bodies. For the first time in Bhubaneswar Xavier Institute of Management organised ‘X-Athon’, an initiative aiming to aspire a healthier self and a healthier society. Many people joined this initiative to express their support towards this noble cause.Every step that has been taken was an attempt to add a smile to the vast multitude of underprivileged souls in our society.
The event witnessed total participation of more than 700 people from dynamic backgrounds. The marathon started from XUB-XIMB campus to Patia square and back through Omfed square and NALCO square. All the amount accumulated through X-Athon was donated to the Smile Foundation. Mr Arun Mishra, Vice President Tata Steel Gopalpur project and Mr ManikantNayak, Chief Resident Officer Tata Steel, Bhubaneswar were the Chief Guests. The winner of the general category was Isaac Ngemui from Kenya. He completed the 10km marathon in a mere 30 mins 48 seconds. He was awarded a sum of Rs.25000. The Women’s category was won by Samsadara Begum who finished the race in 40 mins 6 seconds. She was awarded rupees ten thousand in cash and gift vouchers worth Rs. 5000.
In an attempt to touch as many lives as possible, using Xpressions’14 as a platform, XIMB organizedthis Marathon to bring together the socially responsible people and provide them an opportunity to contribute to those in need and spread smiles. There was this joy on the faces of people who sacrificed their cosy Sunday morning bed and challenged their abilities to run 10 kilometres to bring happiness for others. It seemed to reiterate Tagore’s words, “ I slept and dreamt that life was joy, I awoke and saw that life was service, I acted and behold that service was joy.”
